Troides rhadamanthus (Lucas, 1835)

North Mindanao, Philippines; 8/78

Widespread in the Philippines and generally very common, it survives destruction of primary forest and as such is not likely in any danger at the moment. Variations in the amount of yellow on the hindwing occur on different islands, the extreme form being entirely black (dohertyi from Talaut) or mostly so (plateni from Palawan) - these two forms are usuallly treated as separate species, though I tend to feel they belong with rhadamanthus.
