Troides prattorum (Joicey and Talbot, 1922)

Buru Island, Indonesia;   July 1997    male

A spectacular species confined to the small Island of Buru, it is most closely related to T magellanus and shares with it an opalescent quality to the hind wings. Known mostly from the mountain forests in the island's interior, until recently very few specimens were known. Bred specimens are now available as villagers have learned to farm it for income.
