    Known only from a single locality in eastern Ecuador at high elevations in the Andes. Extremely local and seasonal in dry scrub forest. Appears to be related to P ascanius, though they live in widely separated and different habitats and there is no logical explaination for any relationship between the two. The pair below is the recently described subspecies, nieva, from N peru
