Papilio erostratus (Westwood, 1847)

El Salvador; 5/97  male  ssp. erostratus Female, same data as male

    Confined to Mexico and Central America in three populations which have been considered by some as full species. Generally a forest species. Females mimic Parides photinus, males Battus polydamas.
           erostratinus - local in mountain canyons in east Mexico. A small form; some feel it is a full species.
           vazquezae - SW Mexico, quite rarely found
           erostratus - Extreme SE and SW Mexico and Guatemala to El Salvador. Local.
