    Arabia east through most of south Asia to New Guinea and Australia, including some isolated Pacific islands. Like the African representative of the species, P. demodocus, it is common and aggressive when introduced to a new environment. A Citrus pest in many places. Six or seven subspecies described, including:

    demoleus - China through S Asia to west to the Arabian peninsula
    malayanus - Malay Peninsula and Sumatra
    libanius - Philippines, Talaud, Sula, Formosa and the Japanese Yonakuni Islands
    sthenelus - Sumba and Australia
    novoguineensis - New Guinea
