Wide distribution in the Southern former Soviet provinces
(Kirghizia, Uzbekistan, Turkimenia, Kazakstan, Tadzihikistan - though becoming
quite rare in some places due to habitat destruction), N. Afghanistan,
NW. India (Kashmir), and SW. China. At least 19 subspecies have been described.
