Found from Costa Rica south through the whole Amazon Basin.
Rare northwards but common in the Amazon. Several subspecies in the northern
parts of its range not terribly different from the nominate race:
prasinus - Costa
Rica and W Panama, rare
cleombratas - E Panama,
N Colombia, and Pacific coast of Ecuador
hermolaus - N Colombia
and N Venezuela
tabaquita - Trinidad
pausianus - Amazon
Basin to Brasilia and central Bolivia, common
