  This is an unusual species, deserving its own genus and possibly subfamily. Restricted to N Australia (South to Sydney) and some of the Sunda islands (Tanimbar, Leti, Moa, Baber ssp insularis) , and Papua New Guinea (ssp cassandra). Generally common and a frequent flower visiter through much of its range, but apparently rather rare in New South Wales.
